Wine tourism and where to eat in Requena

Bodegas y enoturismo

Let’s talk about wines and wineries in Requena

In the lands of Requena-Utiel, wine has been made for more than 2000 years, so D.O. Utiel-Requena is the only denomination that has been working wine without interruption for so long.

Requena’s substrate and climatic conditions make its wines very personal, especially the red and rosé wines made with the Bobal variety. A special and increasingly well-known variety, which produces less alcoholic and more acidic wines than those usually made in Spain. Among the red grapes, Tempranillo, Cencibel and Garnacha are also cultivated. Among the white varieties, the most common are Macabeo and Merseguera.

As we have seen Requena has an ancient history in the elaboration of this grape juice. This is also demonstrated by the infinity of wineries located in our region and many of them with the boom in wine tourism have decided to open their doors to visitors to show their traditions, facilities and, above all, their most beloved product: wine. If you decide to stay a weekend, don’t hesitate to stay at Los Canilleros B&B. You will get a unique experience.

Also you cannot miss the Fiesta de la Vendimia that takes place in Requena at the end of August!

Let’s talk about restaurants and what to eat

But, without missing wines, the flagship product is our sausage (“embutido” in Spanish), covered by the Protected Geographical Indication “Embutido de Requena“. Proof of this, is that the most important Valencian event in this sector is held here, “The Sausage Fair” (Feria del embutido). These products include: longaniza, chorizo, güeña, sobrasada, salchichón and blood sausage (“morcilla”). If you want recommendations on the best restaurants in Requena contact us.
